Lufthansa is a great airline. That's all I can say. I must admit it was a bit of a daunting experience at first flying with an airline I had never flown with before but they did provide terrific service in both English and German. And the Airbus A380 is a pretty awesome plane - I still don't think it looks as big as it is but it definitely feels like a more advanced and superior plane to the likes of the Boeing 747 and 777.
Anyway, Frankfurt Airport is not too bad either - and I got through customs rather quickly too which is good, the customs officer (he's actually part of the German Federal Police) actually said have fun after I explained that I was touring Europe for 2 months.
Given that Frankfurt really has nothing unless you want to do business (not that kind of business) and my flight arrived at 5:40am - and it was bright - I caught the train (well actually 3 as I had to change at Mannheim and Basel) and headed to Bern, only 4 hours away, and just in time for lunch. I guess that is the one up-side of having such an early morning arrival.
Now, no offence meant to Lonely Planet and of course, I still love Wellington, but after seeing Bern, I just wonder how Wellington beat Bern to the title of coolest little capital city in the world? Switzerland's capital city has an old city centre that has been protected by UNESCO and has as many cafes and bars as Wellington whose culture while impressive is still really of recent times. Bern has been living it up for years with its heritage and crazy clocks, fountains and bears. And you can walk the whole city centre in half a day - it is that small.
That is pretty cool in my opinion. Anyway I'll let you judge below.
There are some cool castles around there. Don't go too close to the bears!
ReplyDeleteSome familiar sights there! Did you go on the parliament tour?
